  • Monologue- A single actor performing lines
    onstage
  • Cheating out- turning your body so the audience
    can see you
  • Projection- using diction and volume to insure
    that the audience can hear you.

Know your Character/ Character Analysis
  • As an actor you need to know MORE about than your
    character than you actual portray. (ex. Age,
    place of origin, background stories)
  • The more you know about your character the more
    effective your performance will be be.

Characteristics
  • Think about your characters internal traits
  • Mental characteristics intelligent, clever,
    dull, slow, average
  • Lifestyle characteristics ideals, ethical code,
    attitude toward people and life
  • Emotional characteristics confident, outgoing,
    poised, sullen, confused, nervous, cynical. How
    do these affect his or her responses.

External Traits
  • Posture how does your character sit/stand, walk
  • Movement and Gestures How does their age affect
    their movement. What do their gestures say about
    their personality (ex. Nervous, clam)

  • Mannerisms Does the character have any specific
    movements that show their personality (ex. Nail
    biting)
  • Voice dialect or vocal mannerisms

Motivation
  • Motivation a specific reason for doing or saying
    anything.
  • Objective what the actor needs in the monologue
    or scene
  • Obstacle what is standing in the way of the
    characters objective

Character DevelopmentStyle
  • Realistic imitates real life
  • Non realistic the characters and/or situations
    are exaggerated (Presentational)
  • Subtext What the character is thinking while
    they are talkingor what the character means by a
    line of dialouge
