How to make schools in the U.S.A greener!

Solar Panels
  • 6 or 9 for 1 watt
  • For instillation, upfront cost, solar panels,
inverter box, and wiring, it will cost about
30,000 to 40,000 for a small family home.
  • These systems produce clean, reliable energy
    without using any fossil fuels
  • By using solar panels, you could save your
whole electric bill or possibly more.
  • Solar panels convert sunlight into energy
  • Rebuttal
  • The watts would cost thousands of dollars.
  • The government wont pay you back as much as
    you spend.
  • They look ugly on the roof, so where would we
    put them?
  • They are way too much money and the school may
not even be able to afford it.
  • Solar panels dont save as much money as
    people say.

More recycling bins
  • Recycling means to use again and again.
  • At Kingwood we only recycle paper, and usually
    it doesnt get recycled.
  • We need bigger recycling bins in classrooms and
    in hallways.
  • We need to recycle more than just paper. We
need to recycle aluminum cans, paper, plastic,
glass, school supplies, cardboard, and use
    recycled bags.
  • It does not cost money.
  • Rebuttal
  • The students would be to lazy and not even
    recycle.
  • No one has time to bring the recycled items to
    the center.
  • Kids could trip on the bins if they are in the
    hallway.
  • Where would we put the recycled items? There
    isnt enough room.
  • It may cost money.

4
Styrofoam vs. plastic
  • When Styrofoam melts, it releases harmful
    carcinogens into your food
  • One Styrofoam tray costs about 11 cents.
12,630 per year for 500 trays everyday.
  • One plastic tray costs about 3.00. 1,500 for
    500 trays
  • Burning Styrofoam puts harmful styrene gasses
into the air that can affect the nervous system
  • Many places dont recycle Styrofoam, but when
it is recycled it creates more of it that doesnt
    need to be created.
  • Rebuttal
  • Too many germs will get on the trays.
  • It will cost too much money to keep cleaning
    them.
  • What is wrong with Styrofoam?
  • The lunch ladies wont have enough time to keep
    cleaning them.
  • The plastic trays cost too much money to buy
and may need to be replaced regularly.

Fun Facts!
  • To produce each weeks Sundays newspaper,
500,000 trees must be cut down.
  • If you recycle 1 aluminum can, it will save
enough energy to power a TV for 3 hours.
  • If Kingwood used solar panels, it could save them
about 111,916 which is the total electric bill
    for the year.
  • It is about 350.00 per week to buy styrofoam
lunch trays for the school and about 12,630 for
    the year.
  • Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 styrofoam
    coffee cups every year
  • About 1/3 of an average dump is made up of
packing material, which is usually styrofoam.
  • An estimated 80,000,000 Hershey Kisses are
wrapped each day, using enough recycled aluminum
foil to cover over 40 football fields. Many
people do not know that you can recycle the
    wrappers.
  • Rainforests are being cut down at the rate of 100
    acres per minute!
