Some steps to creating your own abstract work of
art...

• Review the 5 basic elements of shape- dots,
  circles, straight lines, curved lines, and
  angled lines.

• Make a 1 border on your drawing paper using a
  pencil.

• 1. Choose any color and make a straight line that
  starts on the edge of one border and ends on a
  different edge, in any direction you want.

• Make two more straight lines from border to
  border, using different colors. (they may cross
  over each other and will form new angles.)

• 3. Pick a new color and draw a circle that
  touches two or more straight lines. (remember
  that circles dont have to be round).

• 4. Change your color and make a dot anywhere in
  your design.

• 5. Use the same color and make a group of five
  smaller dots anywhere you want.

• 6. Take a dark color and put your pen on one of
  the five dots that you have just drawn. Starting
  from this dot, make one curve that goes through
  the big dot and then ends at a border.

• 7. Using the same color, start on the same small
  dot and make another curve that does not go
  through the big dot but ends on a border. Do this
  one more time.

• 8. Add in three angles anywhere you want.

• 9. Color in your picture. You can add different
  textures and color combinations, which will
  change the pictures balance and mood. Try
  leaving some spaces blank and filling in others
  with flat, solid color or detailed patters, such
  as dots or stripes. As you color in your design,
  take the liberty to change any of the spaces and
  add things to get it the way you want.
