Support Multicast Services Using Proxy Mobile
IPv6

    ip-00.txt

2
Summary (1/2)
  • The draft discusses how multicast services and
mobility can be supported using the current Proxy
    Mobile IPv6, IGMP/MLD protocols
  • First, the draft describes scenarios to initiate
multicast services, and inter-MAG mobility using
    one LMA
  • Second, the draft proposes an improved multicast
support using a dedicated LMA for multicast
    services
  • Third, the draft discusses enhanced multicast
    mobility support utilizing handover triggers

3
Summary (2/2)
  • Handover
  • Mobility procedure is the same as for unicast
    service
  • Additional functionality required of MAGs and
    LMAs
  • MAG is the multicast proxy, and LMA as multicast
router or proxy, as defined in RFC 4605
  • Bandwidth usage
  • The dedicated multicast LMA deployment approach
can largely reduce traffic redundancy and
    bandwidth usage
  • MTU
  • The draft does not affect the MTU issue

Conclusions
  • The Dedicated multicast LMA
  • eliminates tunnel convergence issue at the MAG
  • reduces redundant traffic on the network
  • uses PMIP mobility for continuing multicast
    services
  • allows future support of multicast services in
    the PMIP domain

Future Work
  • Comments received from mailing list
  • Will update text and figures to address comments
and better describe the proposed solution
  • Thank You!
