5What is the real issue
There are an estimated 3 million company cars on
the roads
Work-related road collisions are the biggest
cause of work-related accidental death
Business drivers have collision rates 30 40
higher
- 20 Fatalities and 250 Serious Injuries Per Week
whilst driving on company business
6Health and Safety Legislation
- Health and safety law applies to on-the-road
work activities, as to other work activities and
the risks should be effectively managed within a
health and safety system - Work-related road safety can only be effectively
managed if it is integrated into your
arrangements for managing health and safety at
work.
For the majority of people, the most dangerous
thing they do while at work is drive on the
public highway
7Corporate Manslaughter
One Year On 217 deaths at work since April
2008, it is likely investigations are underway
that intend to take advantage of the new powers
to prosecute the entire company rather than
pinpoint individuals, which had proved more
challenging. Tom Sheffield Technical Director
at Aon
8Health and Safety (Offences) Act 2008
A lack of prosecutions under the more complex
Corporate Manslaughter Act will make the
revisions to the Health and Safety (Offences) Act
introduced in January the authorities preferred
route of prosecution for breaches of the Health
and Safety at Work Act. David Faithful, a
consultant solicitor
