1940s
During the 1940s there was over 6 million women
at work and there was also 14.5 million men at
work. People often lived close to members of the
families. Also they had rationing, rationing is
where you can only have a certain amount of food
per month or week.

How home life has changed !!

• People spent most of their leisure time at home
  reading, listening to the radio, watching
  television or pursuing hobbies.
• The most popular hobbies was knitting and needle
  work for women and for men it was gardening.

1960s

• In 1960s there was 10.5 million TV sets in the
  country, and also the first supermarkets opened
  but they mainly opened in the town centres .

How Working Life Has Changed In 1970s

• 1970s there was an equal Act. Women got the same
  amount of money as the men.

• 1971-Decimal coinage came in. Before this there
  was a 12d in a shilling, and 20 shillings in a
  pound.

1980s

• In 1980 up to 50 of households had telephones,
  and also supermarkets had moved from town centres
  to out of town locations

1990s

• Three of the children's out of fours parents
  were married,
• Virtually 100 of homes had a washing machine.

2000s
In 42 of women giving birth were
unmarried. Nearly 1 in for children live in
one-parent families. 67 of UK homes had a DVD
player.
