5Component 3.1 Activities
- Identify county-wide parenting classes, through
outreach to professionals in the community - Maintain a current list of classes on the website
- Actively promote the website (sloparents.org)-incl
ude schools/childcare centers, churches,
pediatricians, family court and family advocates - Create links on existing community websites
- Utilize consistent branding
6Component 3.2 Parenting Classes
- Goal Provide 9 universal 9 selective parenting
classes - Conduct area specific meetings (Sept.-Oct. 2009)
- North County, South County, SLO, Coastal
- Determine lead agency/FRC(s) in each area
- Identify service gaps (targeted populations)
- Identify local parent educators/curriculum models
- Address class logistics with FRCs, based on
consistent guidelines - All Parent Connection parenting classes will be
funneled through an FRC

Line Response System, staffed by Parent Coaches,
for parents who need one-on-one, short-term
counseling and support
11STEP I
- Research and replicate a proven coaching model
that provides supervision, training and other
support services for parent coaches. - Secure agreements among partners to honor and
utilize parent coaching services.
12STEP II
- Search, identify, screen, and train 5 Parent
Coaches to be strategically located county-wide
include the following activities - Focus efforts to identifying bilingual/bicultural
parent coach(es) - Community Outreach Campaign to create awareness
of the Parent Connection Helpline - Parent Coaches will provide timely support and
mentoring via established phone hours as well as
potential home visits and group coaching

- Provide training and support for parent coaches
to increase knowledge in - assessment of stressors and risks
- skill building to address immediate concerns
- improved competencies in addressing parenting
challenges
14STEP IV
- Through these phone contacts-Parent Coaches will
link parents with community resources, help
parents to understand the CWS, law enforcement
and legal systems. - Parents will receive a caring voice to listen and
guidance to connect with community resources, to
meet the challenges of raising children.
