Title: A SWIFT
1A SWIFT INTRODUCTION TO FOUNDATION
DEGREES A LIGHT IN THE DARK?
2FOUNDATION DEGREE FORWARD Foundation Degrees
are innovative two year degrees, designed and
delivered in partnership with employers to equip
people with the relevant knowledge and skills for
business. All Foundation Degrees can be
converted to a full BA (Hons) by progression to
a linked Level 6 course. Third year of a BA or
tailor made top-up For those choosing a full
time degree, this is the perfect kick start to a
career. There are more than 1,600 Foundation
Degrees to choose from with a further 800 planned
and each one designed with the working world in
mind. Whatever students choose, they will be
developing understanding, skill and knowledge
thats highly valued in business
3Foundation degrees were introduced in 2001 as a
new vocational qualification that would be
employer demand-led Foundation degrees are
designed by learning providers and employers in
partnership with a university
4Foundation degrees are validated by universities.
They are distinctive from most honours degree
qualifications in that they have a much higher
level of workplace competence as well as the
equivalent standard of academic attainment as the
second year of an honours degree. They are one
level below an honours degree and attract a
minimum of 240 credits
5Work- based learning is integral to the
Foundation degree. Foundation degrees are,
therefore, distinctive to other qualifications in
which work-based learning or placements are
peripheral.
