• superstition- when you believe something is
  true, but you base this belief on faith, magic or
  chance. For example, if you break a mirror, you
  have 7 years bad luck. This is superstition.
• tangible- you are able to touch it
• opaqueness- not able to see through darkness
• indolently- if you do something lazily
• blandly- something said in a soothing or calm
  way
• bizarre- when something is odd or unusual

• palpable- something you can touch or feel that is
  typically unseen like air, heat, or a tense
  situation.
• Explanation- In the story, Rainsford refers to
  the darkness/air of the night as being palpable.

• vigor- when someone keeps or gets back his or
  her strength and energy.
• Explanation- Rainsford has the vigor to continue
  his escape because he had some sleep.

• naive- when someone is immature, uneducated or
  doesnt know as much as someone else does.
• Explanation- General Zaroff believes Rainsford
  is naïve because he doesnt understand what is
  about to happen to him in the story.

  they dont seem to be helping him escape the

• Explanation- Many would say that General Zaroff
  has no scruples because he is somewhat evil.
