29
USING DATA PROACTIVELY
  • Being visible in the hallways and classrooms is
one vital step to reducing disciplinary problems.
  • Empowering students to make the right decisions
is a major step in reducing disciplinary
    referrals.
  • How can data be used proactively and to help
    influence appropriate behaviors?

30
POINT SYSTEM
  • The point system is designed to promote good
student behavior by allowing bad behavior to be
offset by good behavior point earnings.
  • The point system ranges from zero to one hundred
points, with zero being the best students and one
    hundred being the worst students.

31
POINT SYSTEM NEGATIVE POINTS
  • A student will accrue a set number of bad points
    for discipline transactions
  • Discipline points entered while filling in
    electronic referral
  • Only one extra data field to fill in

32
DISICPLINE POINTSUSING THE POINTS AT AHS
  • When a student falls into a disciplinary level
based on an accumulation of points, the following
    actions will be taken
  • A student must not have more than 10 points to
participate in a reward field trip or no more
than 49 points to participate in an educational
    field trip.
  • A student must not have more than 49 points to
attend a school dance, renaissance day, prom or
    participate in a school/parish play.

33
POINT SYSTEM GAINING GOOD POINTS
  • Students can gain good points and reduce the
number of bad points they have accumulated by
coming to school each day and not having any
    discipline transactions.
  • Students who have not been sent to the office but
have been absent from school (excused absence
only) during each week of a six weeks can gain 2
    good points.
  • Students who have not been sent to the office and
have not been absent from school during each week
of a six weeks can gain 5 good points.

34
POINT SYSTEM
  • Using the point system, a student with bad
behavior is given the opportunity to regain
privileges by good attendance and no discipline
    transactions.
  • The Point System is easy to use
  • Quickly and accurately run program to adjust
    points
  • Easily track students who are at risk of
    expulsion
  • EMPOWERS STUDENTS TO DISPLAY APPROPRIATE BEHAVIORS

35
INCENTIVE CARDS
  • Incentive cards are an efficient and low cost way
to reward positive behaviors to a lot of students
in a short amount of time.
  • Reinforcing appropriate behaviors increases the
likelihood that appropriate behaviors will occur
    again.
  • Reduces the number of referrals for inappropriate
    behaviors
  • Integral part of our Positive Behavioral Supports
    PBS plan

36
IMPLEMENTING INCENTIVE CARDS
  • Use appropriate forms of rewards
  • Target specific behaviors
  • Set up guidelines and timelines to reduce the
    targeted behavior
  • 80 - 90 of student body will receive an
    incentive card
  • Reward students and faculty

37

rewarded with free duty days. Computers will be
given away to teachers at the end of the year
    from all passes redeemed.

38
DO INCENTIVE CARDS WORK AT AHS?
  • Implementing incentive cards has helped reduce
tardiness to class and school during targeted
    months
  • Students who show appropriate behaviors all of
the time have commented on rewards
  • At risk students had opportunity to gain
    incentive during short time span
  • At risk students put on individualized incentive
    plans
  • Referrals to the office for minor infractions has
    decreased during incentive months
