  • The acronym has stood for several things from
    Digital Video Disc to Digital Versatile Disk, but
    today DVD is just DVD.
  • Where did it come from?
  • In Sept. 1995, ten companies joined together
  • Now called the DVD Consortium
  • Broad international support across industries

  • DVD-ROM - read-only discs, similar to CD-ROM (up
    to 17 GB, 200- 600)
  • DVD-R - recordable, similar to CD-R (up to 3.9
    GB per side)
