Motivations and Goals Taka Kondo (KEK)

• In 2007 the LHC construction completes and
  experiments on p-p collisions at 14 TeV starts.
• One can highly expect to discover not only Higgs
  particles but also new phenomena such as SUSY
  particles which would lead us into an entirely
  new physics domain beyond the SM.

• It is extremely important not only to discover
  these particles but also to investigate deeply
  the properties of these new particles.
• The latter, however, requires accurate
  understandings of background processes.
• These studies, therefore, are important steps in
  extracting maximum physics outputs from the
  accelerator experiments at 14 TeV, the energy the
  humankind has never reached before.

• In fact, in past 2 - 3 years, event generators
  and QCD calculations have been rapidly
  progressing toward these goals.
• However, there still exists a wide gap between
  existing event generators and their practical
  applications for real data analyses, leaving many
  items to be solved.

• In order to promote studies in this direction, we
  hereby organize a mini-workshop in which
  developers of various event generators as well as
  users, who wants to apply these event generators
  for LHC data analyses, get together and discuss
  problems that would bridge gaps between
  theoretical calculations and practical
  applications.

• For the 1st meeting of this mini-workshop, we are
  asking presentations by top leaders of the major
  event generators.
• In addition, in order to make the workshop useful
  and productive, we allocate ample time for
  discussion and focus on the main important theme.
