AST Level One The CourseACE-IT Automotives
  • We are partnered with the Industry Training
    Authority (ITA)
  • Our program is certified by the ITA
  • ACE-IT Students are Registered AST Level One
    Apprentices
  • Course is run all year long - Blocks A B both
    Semesters
  • Work Experience Course Instruction is usually in
    semester one with Work Experience Placements in
    semester two
  • However there are exceptions that may occur
    usually depending on individual student
    circumstances Or school programming limitations
  • Course Instruction is at the Post Secondary Level
    the curriculum covered is mandated by the ITA.
  • ACE-IT Students are required to purchase the
    required Textbook as well as the required
    Learning Guides Approximate Cost 300.00
    (School bulk purchase)

Automotive Service Technician Level One
Expectations
  • As this is essentially a Post-Secondary Course
    and the students are expected to
  • Have a genuine interest in learning
  • Be reliable
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude in all aspects of
    the ACE-IT Program
  • Possess as well as demonstrate a high level of
    maturity

What do Successful Students Receive?
  • Upon successful completion of the Terry Fox
    In-School portion of the program
  • The students are given a weighted grade that is
    applied toward their AST Level One Certification
  • The students are then given the opportunity to
    write the ITA AST Level One Certification Test
  • A Combined mark is calculated using the School
    Mark and the Results from the ITA Examination
  • A minimum combined grade of 70 will give you
    credit for the Technical training portion of your
    Automotive Service Technician Level One
    Apprenticeship
  • Add to this successful completion of 1500 hours
    of approved and sponsored work and
  • You are now a Certified Automotive Service
    Technician Level One

AST LEVEL 1 TRAINING
  • To complete level 1 training you will need to
    obtain 1500 hours of approved and sponsored work
    as well as successfully completing the in-school
    program you will be enrolled in at Terry Fox.
  • A combined School / AST Level One Examination
    mark of 70 is the minimum standard to receive
    AST Level One Certification.

Work Based Training
  • There are 2 options
  • A. Secondary School Apprenticeship
  • Hours credited to AST Level One Requirements
  • B. Work Experience
  • Hours not credited to AST Level One Requirements
  • If Work Experience placement becomes an SSA
    placement hours can be grandfathered.

Secondary School Apprenticeship
  • Students have an opportunity to earn credit for
    graduation for every 120 hours of paid sponsored
    work. The course credit is SSA11A, SSA11B,
    SSA12A, and SSA12B. You also will be eligible
    to receive 1000 by the Ministry of Education if
    you have 1100 hours completed by November 30th
    2010.

SSA
  • All these hours will count toward your level 1
    certification. The more hours you can earn the
    less you will be required to complete your level
    1 work based training.

SSA
  • An SSA placement is not the responsibility of
    Terry Fox.
  • If you are already working at an acceptable
    setting or if you know where you might be able to
    get a placement, please inform Mr. Haerdi.
  • We cannot guarantee a SSA placement. However a
    Work Experience placement may turn into a SSA.

Work Based Training
  • Your work based training must be supervised by a
    certified Technician.
  • There are a variety of placements available from
    Car Dealerships, Gas Stations and Automotive
    Repair locations.

Work Experience (WEX)
  • Work Experience is OPTIONAL but we need to know
    ASAP if you do not wish to participate in the WEX
    portion of the course.
  • Students have an opportunity to earn credit for
    WEX12A and WEX 12B for 240 hours of work
    experience supervised by a qualified Technician
    or equivalent.
  • These hours will not count towards your Level 1
    training however, you will receive high school
    credit and they are part of the Automotive ACE-IT
    program.

Work Experience
  • Whether it is SSA or Work Experience it can be
    done in the evenings or weekends, or during the
    day from mid June to the end of September. After
    September 30, 2010 you are considered an adult
    student and Terry Fox will not provide
    supervision.

Paper Work
  • Mr. Haerdi is our Work Experience Course
    Instructor
  • He will provide you with the necessary
    instruction and paperwork prior to starting your
    Work Experience
  • He will also oversee the supervision and
    collection of the paperwork
  • He is responsible for and will work with you in
    finding a suitable placement
