3AIESEC Profile
AIESEC, the world's largest student
organization, is the international platform for
young people to discover and develop their
potential so as to have a positive impact on
society. In addition to providing over 5,000
leadership positions and delivering over 350
conferences, AIESEC also runs an exchange program
that enables over 3,500 students and recent
graduates the opportunity to live and work in
another country.
4Demonstration Scenario
AIESEC demonstration activity within ECOLEAD
project will concern creation of PVC in the area
of Human Resource Management and Development
(HRMD) with membership drawn from AIESEC alumni
currently working full-time in a related field or
having strong interest in the field.
5Current Situation

- Collaboration and learning platform (50.000
users, 200 communities, 10 years, av. 50
concurrent users) - Features (files, forums, profiles, search,
surveys, control panel etc.) - Open source
6Current Situation
- www.aiesec.net/connect
- System for alumni technically integrated with
www.aiesec.net (20.000 users, 3 years) - Features (files, forums, profiles, search,
surveys, control panel etc.) plus business and
social networking module and country portals - Open source
7Current Situation
- AIESEC HRM population
- Current members of the organization (students)
with formal positions at local and national level
in the area of HRMD, incl. members of the
dedicated global community for HRD at
www.aiesec.net - Dedicated People Development Unit
- Alumni with interest in HRD connected via
personal contacts, semi-formal groups at the
level of alumni clubs, groups, etc. - A large part of alumni are registered with
AIESEConnect. Good historical memory of using the
system while in AIESEC. - Many informal HRM-related social networks (not
institutionalized, informal).
8ECOLEAD PVC Model
9Social Dimension in the PVC
- There is formal PVC with clearly defined
governance structures, which is actively engaging
in regular activities, with a particular number
of participants. A dedicated coordinator is
driving activities of the community. - The PVC is relying heavily on support provided by
specialized PVC software, e.g. SBN (Social
Business networking) module, knowledge
management systems. - Community has clear information policy, which
reminds members of the PVC to adhere to their
corporate policies in regards to information
provision unless they provide opinion on personal
capacity. - The PVC becomes a center of social links
development enriching existing informal contacts
and widening reach to new ones. PVC does not
become a formal structure to replace the informal
groups or links but becomes a breeding
environment for more cross-generational links.
10Knowledge Dimension in the PVC
- There are formal structures and mechanisms in
place to stimulate creation of new knowledge,
e.g. via physical events on certain topics, which
are then continued via virtual discussions
resulting in final report being produced by a
virtual team and distributed widely in the PVC
and beyond. - Community has clear information policy, which
reminds members of the PVC to adhere to their
corporate policies in regards to information
provision unless they provide opinion on personal
capacity.
11Business Dimension in the PVC
- Involving partner organizations of AIESEC, esp.
alumni working for AIESEC partner companies.
Potential tools - business case competitions or
online debates. - Consulting current AIESEC committees on their HR
issues - Encouraging cultivation of business ideas
organized by members of the PVC, e.g.
experimental projects, commercial reports, joint
applications to external sources of funding etc. - The expertise of the PVC members is visualized
and constantly updated in the system to enable
matching between different members with similar
interests in a seamless way.
12Specific challenges
- Set-up of PVC based on AIESEC alumni population
(channels, generations, geographies, HRM
preferences etc.) - Conflict of interests among AIESEC and PVC
entities (business model) - Generalization of demonstration outcomes
- Linking community system and BSN module at all
levels
