Title: COMP 6620

1
COMP 6620
  • User Interface Design and Evaluation

2
User Interface Design
  • Hansens 71 Classic
  • User Engineering Principles for Interactive
    Systems
  • Consider Alternatives
  • Prototype Early
  • Prototype Often Test Early
  • Test Often
  • Fail Early Fail Often

3
Iterative Design
  • Task
  • Artifacts
  • We present a model - the so-called task artifact
cycle - which integrates the development of a
system being in use into the software lifecycle.
The basic assumption of the model is, that the
actual use of a system may considerably differ
from the original design. This has to be taken
    into consideration in maintenance and
reengineering. In particular, the monitoring of
this development process is an important basis
    for maintainability.

4
User Interface Design
  • Important Points!!!
  • KNOW THY USER
  • TASK ANALYSIS

5
Class Approach to UI Design Process
  • Work in Teams
  • Go through Design Process from Start to finish
  • Four Phase Projects
  • Task analysis and user definition
  • Sketch out three alternative design
  • Based on feedback from Class, TA, Instructor
    User
  • Select one prototype
  • Define and carry out Usability tests on the
    prototype

  • Based on feedback from class, TA, instructor,
    User
  • Select one prototype
  • Define and carry out Usability tests on the
    prototype
  • Emphasize User Centered design and that the User
may see the task in unique ways and vary
    different ways than the designer
