  • Founded by Pierre Omidyar with partner Jeff Skoll
    in 1995
  • First item sold was a broken laser pointer for
    14.83. Astonished Pierre contacted the winning
    bidder to ask if he understood the laser pointer
    was broken. The buyer replied Im a collector
    of broken laser pointers.
  • Name started as AuctionWeb - EchoBay - eBay
