14 Economics?
- Economics develops the tools to understand issues
such as how to limit/prevent unemployment, how to
regulate financial markets, how to control the
market power of large firms, how best to address
climate change and how to help poorer countries
grow and develop - No prior knowledge of economics is required
- Students are prepared for careers in management,
finance, teaching, public service, consultancy,
European institutions, and research
15 Sociology?
- Sociology helps us to understand both large-scale
and intimate patterns of relations and to relate
these to our everyday experiences as members of
society. - 'Society', or 'the social', covers phenomena from
social movements like Fair Trade and feminism
through to relations of inequality at global and
local levels, the nature of work, migration and
mobility in Ireland and Europe, and shared
practices of behaviour like dress codes or going
to the pub for a drink (or two). - If you are curious about social change as it
