1.   Attention to Deadlines

• Try to have your application arrive as
• EARLY as possible.

Send applications with a return receipt

get there. This may convey a positive
characteristic about the sender (be serious and
expecting)

2.   Start Your Application with a
Thank You Cover Letter

• (Read the sample packet cover

3.   Answer the Mail

• While this seems obvious, we must
• construct our application to make it
• easy for the committee to see that we
• have provided everything that was
• required by the committee. If possible
• do not mix different items on the
• same page.

4. Add Extra Items to the Application( if
Not Forbidden)

• This is where you get to be
• creative to find ways and things
• that present you in positive light
• to the selection committee.

But DO NOT add any extra items if we are
specially told not to add. This means, if we
add, that we can not follow directions when we
are forbidden to do so.

Some ideas to get you started

  Goals (one page or two only)
• b. Write a paragraph or two on how this
  scholarship awards will help you reach your goals
• c. Mention being in the top 10 of your class
  (acknowledgment of your hard work)

5.  Personalize Letter of
Recommendation

• This is a tip that convey that you took the
• time to make this application special. When
• you have letter or recommendation
• addressed to the special organization or
• special person, it says that you took the
• time and effort to make this letter special
• for them.

• clear plastic folder, with a slide locking
• binder. Dont mess it up by folding it to a
• small envelope.
