- Hepatitis B is a virus that infects the liver.

15How do I know if I have hepatitis B?
- A simple blood test is the only way to be sure
- Most people do not experience any symptoms until
it is too late! - 70 of people with chronic hepatitis B have no
symptoms
16Blood Test Results
Two tests are used to determine hepatitis B status
- Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg)
- POSITIVE () result means you have hepatitis B
- NEGATIVE (-) result means you do NOT currently
have hepatitis B - Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (Anti-HBs)
- POSITIVE () result means you are protected
against hepatitis B - NEGATIVE (-) result means you are NOT protected
