• today will provide you with Network Rails vision
  and objectives for many safety initiatives and
  projects
• most of them will present us ALL with challenges
  that we will overcome and succeed in making this
  a safer but more efficient railway

• safety is still and will always be our number one
  priority
• Network Rail have developed an action plan (SAF5)
  
• sponsorship by the Deputy Chief Executive to
  provide focus and leadership direction at board
  level
• accelerate improvements in track-worker safety
• ensure that we have the right management
  framework and behaviours

• we need to instil the culture of safety in the
  line, moving away from safety professionals
  doing safety for others, whilst ensuring that
  we have competent people (Managers and
  Supervisors) in delivery roles in order for them
  to be able to discharge their responsibilities
  effectively. Before we do this, we need to skill
  up the line.

Other Commitments

• we are also committed to the review of the
  appropriate Group and Company standards that
  stifle and make the competency process difficult
  to deliver and to manage
• overview and appreciation course instead of PTS
• revised and simplified TVP process
• review of relevant accreditation process in
  conjunction with our procurement team
• commitment to consultation with the appropriate
  organisations on the above

Sentinel

• 6 successful Sentinel years and we are proud of
  what it has achieved , it has set standards and
  has brought significant improvements to track
  worker safety
• soup to nuts review has taken placetimes have
  changed since 1999 and an overhaul of the system
  is required
• better value for money required from the future
  contracts
• we will revise and refine some of the processes
  and procedures without any compromise of quality
  or safety to any individual
