LIGO TAMA inspiral analysis
  • LIGO S2 inspiral analysis uses two site
    coincident data.
  • TAMAs DT8 occurred at the same time as S2.
  • Both LIGO and TAMA sensitive to binary NS
    inspirals in the Milky Way.
  • Analyze LIGO single site data in coincidence with
    TAMA.

Goals of the Search
  • The ultimate goal of the search is a detection.
  • Alternatively, we can improve the upper limit,
  • R 2.3/eTobs NMWEG
  • Use about 700 hours of data.
  • Sensitive to most of the Milky Way.
  • Rate comparable to LIGO S2 result.
  • Interesting issue how to combine upper limit
    from two separate searches.

Search Strategy
  • LIGO and TAMA detectors analyzed independently
    for inspiral triggers.
  • We make use of data analysis infrastructure
    created for S2 analysis.
  • Triggers (mass, SNR, chi squared, end time)
    exchanged and searched for coincidence.
  • Tune coincidence parameters (mass and time) with
    software injections.
  • Use time slides to estimate background.
  • Combine with LIGO result to obtain upper limit.

Preliminary Injection Result
  • Injected two 1.4-1.4 optimally oriented binaries.
  • Triggers obtained in both LIGO and TAMA, and
    exchanged.
  • Very preliminary coincidence study both
    injections found coincident in mass and time.

  • Single site LIGO S2 data will be analyzed in
    coincidence with TAMA for inspiral signals.
  • Agreed format for swapping triggers.
  • Major work needed in tuning coincidence
    parameters done with signal injections.
  • First triggers exchanged and injections
    successfully found in coincidence.
