CUSTOMER BASE INCREMENT

• Target is to connect 100,000 customers annually
  from 2007

CONNECTION WAY FORWARD

• Customers are now allowed to pay in part for
  service line connections
• Outsource construction projects
• Ensure availability of construction materials,
  transport and skilled manpower
• For REA funded projects, the first 100 customers
  to pay for application form VAT only, and will
  be provided with four energy saver bulbs

RURAL ELCTRIFICATION PROJECTS

• The first priority is to connect all district
  headquarters and surrounding villages.
• To date only 12 district headquarters have not
  yet been connected with electricity out of 114
  districts.
• However 4 out of the 12 districts will be
  connected by end of this year or early next year.

• Kilindi District Headquarters in Tanga Project
  expected to be completed in December 2009
• Electrification of Bahi District headquarters in
  Dodoma Project expected to be completed in
  December 2009
• Electrification of Kilolo District Headquarters
  in Iringa Project expected to be completed in
  December 2009
• Uyui District Headquarters in Tabora Project
  expected to be completed in December 2009.

GENERAL CONDITIONS OF SUPPLY FOR ENERGY EFFICIENT
UTILIZATION

• POWER FACTOR-
• shall be 0.95 for lighting and 0.9 for other
  loads. A surcharge of 2.9 times consumed kWh is
  imposed for low P.F
• Three phase supplies shall be balanced
• Consumers should comply with methods of starting
  motors

CONCLUDING REMARKS

• Rehabilitation of deteriorated Distribution
  Network infrastructure and expansion of
  distribution network to capture more customers
  are the critical challenges that face TANESCO.
• Establishment of REA and formation of REF has
  assist in addressing expansion challenge
  especially in rural areas.
• It is expected that more rural areas will be
  electrified following willingness of financiers
  to finance the RE projects including the
  Government.
