OSG_at_FNAL-- Mission

• Objectives
• Ensure Fermilab makes recognised excellent
  contributions to the OSG Consortium and that
  relevant Grid projects within the Computing
  Division provide usable production quality
  services used by OSG as well as the other
  Scientific Facilities at the Laboratory.
• Coordinate the OSG Storage, Security and
  Documentation Technical Groups.
• As Executive Director ensure the deliverables of
  the OSG to DOE and NSF, and work for its success
  in the broader community.
• Priorities
• Meet the needs of the Fermilab scientific
  program -- Run II and other running experiments,
  CMS, and the future needs of the Fermilab
  stakeholders.
• Risks
• Failure of other institutions within the OSG to
  deliver their commitments will affect the ability
  of the project to suceed.
• Differences in Fermilab and other OSG stakeholder
  needs and schedules can lead to divergence in
  implementations and services.
• Failure of CD to be able to hire new staff to
  meet the commitments to OSG will compromise our
  ability to suceed in our deliverables.

OSG Scope

• Five Year program of work (2006-2011) to
• Operate and extend a national/international
  distributed facility
• Provide a reference software stack.
• Contribute effectively to the WLCG experiments
• Provide effective system for all Fermilab users
• Educate and train new users and administrators,
  new communities etc.
• Manage things.
• OSG Scope at Fermilab
• SciDAC-2 and NSF MPS funding of 1.1M for FY07.
  Anticipated flat for 5 years. Expectation that
  this covers 7 FTEs derailed by additional
  FRA/Fermilab overhead.
• Annual Statement of Work with OSG. Year 1 (done
  before increased overhead understood) comes to
  7.7 FTEs. Expect funds to cover because of late
  hiring and availability of people.

• Storage in Virtual Data Toolkit and Extensions

OSG Consortium_at_FNAL

• Council members own the resources the
  applications, contribute software services,
  provide effort for OSG needs, and govern the
  Consortium.
• Vicky, Brad, Lothar, Ashutosh, Ruth, DonP are on
  the Council. Ian Fisk, Gabriele, Gene, Philippe
  are additionally on the Executive Board
  representing External projects.
• Council governance says there are MOUs with the
  member organizations - will need to address this
  soon.
• Fermilab (50.55.) Consortium Contributions
  include
• Access through FermiGrid and US CMS Tier-1 to
  computing and storage resources for many/all OSG
  VOs.
• Support for OSG users and VOs on FermiGrid.
• Integration Grid site and Integration
  activities.
• A Support Center well interfaced to the central
  OSG operations infrastructure.
• Validation, integration, inteperability and
  quality assurance
• Support for WLCG and interoperability with EGEE
• Support for the Executive Director and Security

Work over the next six months

• Support resources and performance needed for
  production usage of OSG especially for all
  Fermilab users. (need to better document
  expectations and sum of needs).
• Implement the Security Plan.
• Lead provision and support for shared, effective
  use of Storage across the OSG.
• Deliver Accounting and Metrics,
  Authorization/Security, WMS software for OSG
  0.8.0 for 08/15. VDT expectations defined, VO
  requirements still being gathered.
• Ramp up on work on Usability OSG Information
  Management and Metrics (LCS quadrant?) Policy,
  Agreements and Auditing (LSC quadrant?)
• Extend Fermilab policies for support of
  non-Fermilab user VOs.
• Agree on and prepare project for Year 2
  deliverables.
• Prepare for OSG review in September.
