  • Thesis Statement
  • Ultimate fighting is becoming a more and more
popular sport all over the world. Each fighter
has their own variety of mixed martial arts
skills that include wrestling, boxing, Jui Jitsu,
Judo, Muay Thai, karate, and kick boxing. These
athletes go through one of the most grueling in
your face type of training, but each fighter
takes a different approach at it. Why would
anyone want to go into a fenced in octagon and
fight where there is no rules? I guess its a
guys thing to show pride. Now they have a TV
series so people that enjoy watching UFC can get
a closer look to what it takes to become an
    ultimate fighter.

  • My Thoughts
  • Ever since I was little me and my dad would
always watch the ultimate fighting on HBO or we
had to order it. I dont know why I love this
sport so much maybe because I am a girl and they
dont have this type of sport for me. I love the
fact that all the fighters give it 100 all the
time even if they get the crap kicked out of them
they still get right back up. The whole concept
behind the ultimate fighting is to see who has
the best fighting skills or style. There are
mixed martial artists out there that has said
that you can use you techniques to out do someone
that out weighs you by a lot. My favorite UFC
fighter would have to be Chuck Liddell, but I
    like a lot others

Background Information The UFC is a mixed
martial arts organization based out of the United
States, which is currently the largest MMA
promotion in the world. Although its
headquarters is out of Las Vegas, Nevada they
fight all over the country and world. This
organization is owned by Zuffa, LLC and the
President of this organization is Dana White.
The word Zuffa is an Italian word meaning to
fight and was founded in 2001. In the earlier
days UFC fighting was not much of a sport it was
mostly was consider human cockfighting, but as it
became more popular people put more skill into
their fights. Each individual fighter has their
own strengths and weakness within the different
fighting styles there are out there. The arena
where the fighter fight in is called the octagon.
As you can tell the shape of it is eight sided
and its fenced in as well. Critics have said
that you just need to use your skills to out
smart someone that might out weigh you or be
stronger. Now since the organization is more
organized they have divided the fighters into
certain weight classes to make it more
fair. References www.ufc.com

Training What I like the most about the sport is
the type of training they do. These bunch of
athletes are among the top elite athletes in the
country. The athletes that are involved with
this sport go through one the most intensive type
of training there is out there. They dont do
you regular conditioning of just going out on a
track and running. Usually the fighter is apart
of a team and their jobs are to train these
athletes for battle pretty much. When the
fighters enter the infamous octagon their minds
are set on beating that other person up until the
referee stops the fight because of too much blood
or some sort of injury which the fighter can no
longer go. And let me tell you these fighters
are not wimps by any means. They will go
sometimes until they get choked or passed out
because they dont want to be considered a
quitter. The one time I was watching a fighter
named Kit and when his opponent hit him his rib
popped out and you could literally see it bulging
from his side. Kit didnt want to stop fighting,
but the ref called it and they other guy won. I
know if that was me I would have never went
through that kind of pain. It kind of seems sick
but I think that these fighters love the feeling
of pain.
7
Training The mixed martial art technique called
Muay Thai originated from the country Thailand.
The most popular martial arts that athletes
choose are kick boxing and Muay Thai. One of the
best training camps are in Thailand and athletes
will travel all the way from the United States
just so they can train with the legends of sport.
There arent just training centers in foreign
countries, but known athletes in the business are
now opening their own gyms and training centers
so people can concentrate on a particular style
of the sport locally. Dealing with all types of
sports growing up I can tell that these athletes
are one of the most dedicated to their sport than
any other ones that I know. When you are just
starting into the sport they have training camps
for those that are beginners and then those that
are more advanced. Muay Thai is a perfect way of
exercising because it an aerobic exercise and a
fitness training. But it is all considered the
most dangerous of all the styles too. The more
skills that a fighter has under their belt is
more helpful in the long run. Each different
technique has its own purposes because some are
for the ground and submission holds and others
are for when you are striking and standing up man
to man. MMA fighters are pretty much the
complete package deal, you have good submission
holds, can fight on your back, youre a good
striker, and good with your kicking and elbows.
Another popular style responsible by Gracie is
Jui Jistu which is also a founder of the UFC.
These types of techniques take a lot of training
hours. When you are in training for the UFC you
dont have that much down time that you are in
fight mode. It takes months to perfect a style
of fighting. You just dont get it overnight.

The Ultimate Fighter TV series The UFC
came out with a reality TV series recently to try
and promote their business more. They are on
their sixth season right now and it has become
popular within the ratings. The organization
picks 16 men from all over the world to live
under one house and try and become the next
ultimate fighter. For each series the two teams
have a coach that is already an ultimate fighter
so they can motivate, discipline, and encourage
them in the ways they were taught. Each fighter
is trying to get that six figure contract with
the UFC. On the show you can tell who are the
weak ones and who are the strong ones. When I
was watching an episode for this past season
there was a guy that lost in the first round, but
he got to stay in the house for a second chance.
He cried and complained the whole entire time
because he couldnt talk to his girlfriend. When
the fighters signed up for this competition they
know that they werent going to be able to call
their loved ones. So I feel that he was not
mentally tough enough to go without his
girlfriend for 7 weeks. Every fighter on the
show shows self-discipline in some way and they
all have dreams, but only one will be the
Ultimate Fighter.
9
The Ultimate Fighter TV Series The Ultimate
Fighter reality TV show is produced by Spike TV
and the UFC itself. This series is similar too
the setup of Survivor and Big Brother. There are
sixteen men picked from all over the world to
live under one roof together. They are housed in
Las Vegas where UFCs headquarter is and where
there National Training center is as well. These
men have been fighting most of there lives but
havent made a name for themselves yet. These
men show great discipline and strength throughout
the 7 weeks the show is aired. They will take
their training to next level. For some its like
nothing they have ever experienced before. These
fighter are under strict supervision by already
famous UFC fighters, trainers and the President
Dana White to make sure they are here for the
right purpose. The athletes are dividend into
two teams and will compete against each other
according to their weight class given to them.
At the end of each week a fighter from each team
will go head to head in the infamous Octagon.
When its all said and done there will be a winner
of each of the two weight classes. Even though
these two fighter will be totally different sizes
they will match up face to face in the octagon to
get that six figure contract and that self pride
that comes within to be the Ultimate Fighter
Championship. Reference-http//www.tv.com/the-ult

  • Summary
  • There are different skills that fighters have
when being an ultimate fighter. Some include Jui
Jitsu, kickboxing, wrestling, Muay Thia, and
    boxing.
  • The individual that wants to become an ultimate
fighter has to know what kind of training they
are getting themselves into because its one of
the most intense type of training youll go by.
Its more like a military style boot camp
training. So why would anyone want to be an
ultimate fighter if they go through this type
pain everyday? I think its to shows a lot of
character to see who is strong.
  • The Ultimate Fighter Championship came out with a
new hit TV series to try and promote there
business. They are on their 6th season right now
and I think each year they are getting better
fighters to compete. In the end of the show
there will be one winner that will be in the UFC.

Final Thoughts It takes different factors to be
in the UFC and each fighter shows specail
qualities within themselves. The average Joe
cant just walk right into this sport. Its not
for everyone. You have to be one of the top
elite well trained athletes to survive in this
industry. This is not an easy sport by any
means. If it was then everyone would do, but you
only see the strong and determined athletes still
competing. The reason why I love this sport so
much is because its amazes me how a man can go in
a cage and just fight man to man. Whoever has
the better technique and strength is going to
win. These men shed there blood, sweat and tears
every single day they are in training. I respect
each and every single individual that
participates in this sport because of there will
power and strive to be the best fighter than can
be.
