  • The purpose of this evaluation is to ensure the
    students are demonstrating proper technique while
    completing a max-out bench press and recording he
    maximum weight lifted.
  • Instructions Students are to be broken up into
    their regular work out groups and warm up on
    their own. When they feel they are ready to
    perform their max-out they are to call the
    instructor over to watch the lift they perform.
    If the student performs the lift with all of the
    proper technique and completes the lift, s/he has
    the option to keep the weight they just performed
    or add more weight and attempt another lift.
  • Equipment needed Bench press bench with rack,
    Olympic barbell, and weight plates
  • Scoring procedures In order for the max-out
    lift to count, the student must demonstrate the
    proper technique for a bench press outlined
    below. No one will fail a max out session.
    The amount of weight lifted depends on the
    student with the goal of improving the amount of
    weight lifted with each max session. However, if
    the student needs to decrease his/her weight to
    properly complete the lift they should do so.
    Each student has three attempts at a specific
    weight.
  • Students with disabilities will have their
    workouts modified to their special needs

Understand The TestIn This Setting
  • All students participating lifted at one weight
    (45 lbs) due to time and safety considerations
  • Not all students had previous weight lifting
    knowledge

Understanding The TestIn the Classroom Setting
  • Students would have completed a bench press
    max-out lift before this point
  • Students will complete max-outs in bench press,
    dead lift, and squat three times a semester
    (beginning, mid-term, and final)
  • Max-out scores are meant to see improvement, not
    to grade
  • No one fails
