INTRODUCTION
4
  • Definition BWE
  • BWE is one of the most unique and beautiful
    ecosystem.

5
CHARACTERISTIC
  • clear black-red colour
  • odourless
  • rich in humic acid
  • pH 3-4
  • contains many toxic materials (H2S, phenol, Mn,
    Cu, and Pb).

6
COMPONENT
  • 100 species of forest trees
  • more than 40 species of grasses, orchids, rattan,
    mushrooms
  • at least 40 species of traditional
    pharmacological plants
  • More than 60 species of mammalian
  • 65 species of birds
  • at least 100 species of fishes
  • water animals and endangered fauna orang hutan
    (Pongo pigmaeus), bekantan (Navalis larvatus),
owa (Hylobtes gilis), and honey bear (Helarctos
    mlayaanus).
  • Meso-organisms, planktons and bentos of BWE have
    not been studied yet.

7
IMPORTANT VALUE
  • Biodiversity
  • Economical potential
  • Biotechnological potential
  • Industrial product pharmacy
  • Eco-tourism

8
EXTINCTION PROBLEM
  • Forest fires
  • Deforestation
  • peat swamp development project (Mega Rice
    Project)
  • Human activities using toxic material to
    fishing, illegal illegal logging, fish
exploitation using fine nets, and cyanide.

9
CONCLUTION
  • Although the environment is extreme, this
ecosystem is very rich in biological diversity.
  • Considering the various problems faced by the
ecosystem, it is very crucial for the local
people to be able to protect and manage the Black
    Water Ecosystem.
