Hard to Browse!

• Plays are not all shelved in the same place, so
  it is almost impossible to browse
• Drama anthologies can be found in the PN section
  (4th floor)
• Non-American English language plays are shelved
  in the PR section (4th floor)
• American playwrights are shelved under PS, on the
  5th floor

• The Library Catalog will tell you where to go to
  find a particular play.
• If you dont know the title and author, or to
  search by subject, try Play Index well visit
  there later in the presentation.

UNLV Library Catalog

• Try searching for the exact title of the play
  with "title" selected from the search box. This
  will find your play's title in both book titles
  and also in the tables of contents of books.
• If you get too many results, use the Limit/Refine
  search button to add the author's name to the
  search.

The TITLE search is more precise than a keyword
search.

The TITLE search returns both book titles and
chapter titles. Usually you can tell which one is
the right choice by looking at the authors name.

shelf

This search for Arcadia brought back 78
possibilities. The Limit/Sort Search button lets
you add another search term to search within the
existing list.

No luck in library catalog

• If you don't turn up any evidence of the play in
  UNLV's library catalog, the next step is to see
  if it has been published as part of an anthology
  of plays.
• Some anthologies in UNLV Libraries have their
  table of contents as part of their catalog
  record, so you may locate plays that way

Finding a play in an anthology

• Play Index, an online index available on the Find
  Databases page, will also tell you about
  anthologies plays have been published in
• On alphabetical list, or choose Theater Arts -gt
  Indexes
• If you know title or author, search by them
• You can also search by subject or keyword
  (keyword searches through one sentence summaries)

the play follow the linked title for more
information.

The Find this play in a book link will give you
information about the anthologies it appears in.

Use the Find Fulltext link to discover if UNLV
Libraries has a copy of that anthology. A new
window will open.

The UNLV Library Catalog link on this menu will
automatically search for the anthology you
selected in the library catalog.

The new window shows whether UNLV has a copy of
the anthology. When there are multiple copies of
a book available, sometimes some of them will be
located in LASR storage. It only takes 5 minutes
to retrieve them- use the Request this Item
button.

Play Index can also help if you cant remember
the author or exact title of a play enter a
keyword or two in the keyword search box.

Clicking on any title will let you browse the
full descriptions of plays on the whole list.

Once you identify it, use the Find Fulltext
button to check the librarys print holdings.

If you get a No Matches Found result, you have
the option to try to borrow the book from another
library using UNLVs Document Delivery
Service. Following the link on this menu will
create a request form that is already filled out
for you with the details of this book.

Youll be prompted to enter your ILLiad username
and password if you dont have one yet, use the
First Time Users link to create one.
Once logged in, the request information will be
automatically filled in you just need to click
the submit button and wait a week or so for the
book to arrive from another library.

• Not all play scripts have been published!
  WorldCat will also help determine which ones
  have.
• UNLV also has access to thousands of scripts
  online. Some are linked from the library catalog,
  but many are not.
