experiences and needs regarding employment - Individual decides who will participate in
creating their profile (family, service
providers, school ,etc) - Individual is the primary source of information,
with other participants providing ideas and
suggestions

7Getting to know the Job Seeker Questions to Ask
- Have they worked before?
- What jobs have they loved? Hated?
- In which type of work environments were they
successful? - What social skills do they bring?
- What jobs or work environments should be avoided?
- Dont dismiss something as unrealistic until
you have explored what it could lead to!
8Person Centered Planning (PCP)What is it?
- A personal vision of what an individual would
like to be and do - Emphasizes preferences, talents, dreams ( not
needs/limitations) - Takes advantage of existing supports
- Involves family and friends in planning and
action steps
9Why do a PCP?
- Empowers the individual to drive the process of
goal achievement - Helps support people share the responsibility of
being involved in action steps - Brings stakeholders together to work as a team
10How do you do a PCP?
- Individual decides who he/she would like to be
involved in the meeting - One of the group members organizes a time and
place for everyone to meet - Facilitator writes down notes and plan using a
PCP form - Each person leaves with a task or tasks to
accomplish - Tentative meeting to re-evaluate plan
11Person-Centered Employment Planning
- Allows for self-determination
- Focuses on ability rather than disability
- Builds confidence and ability to promote self
- Uses existing relationships for support
- - Friends, family, community members
- Increases engagement, job satisfaction, and job
performance
