- Reading is the process of making meaning of text.
Students must be able to demonstrate their
comprehension, their ability to analyze, and
their critical thinking related to written text.

- Guidelines for assembling a sufficient COE
- The collection must include
- At least 8 and no more than 12 work samples that
- Include at least four work samples each of which
can be scored for more than one literary strand. - Include at least four work samples each of which
can be scored for more than one informational
strand.

- Characteristics of the 8-12 work samples
- Must include students description of the
assigned text. - Must include work samples that include text-based
evidence. - Must include an copy of the teachers assignment

- Each work sample must address at least two
strands. A work sample that does not address two
strands will be considered insufficient.
