2Martins Unanswerable Questions
Question 12
- If salvation is not by works of righteousness
which we have done, and baptism is a work of
"righteousness," then how can water baptism be a
part of salvation? (Titus 35 Matt. 316) In the
Bible, we are SAVED BY GRACE, and grace does not
involve human effort or merit - grace is grace
and work is work! (Just read Ephesians 28,9 and
Romans 116.)
3Titus 35
Not by works of righteousness which we have
done, but according to His mercy He saved us,
through the washing of regeneration and renewing
of the Holy Spirit.
- The verse is not discussing righteous works that
God commands of us! - Its discussing their own righteousness (cf.
Rom. 103 2 Tim. 19 contrast Rom. 104, 10)!
4Titus 35
Not by works of righteousness which we have
done, but according to His mercy He saved us,
through the washing of regeneration and renewing
of the Holy Spirit.
How His Mercy Saves
5Mr. Martin Believes Gods Mercy is NOT Worked
Through Baptism
- If salvation is not by works of righteousness
which we have done, and baptism is a work of
righteousness, then how can water baptism be a
part of salvation? (Titus 35 Matthew 316)
6The Apostle Paul Believed Gods Mercy Was Worked
Through Baptism!
- Ephesians 526 That He might sanctify and
cleanse her with the washing lt3067gt of water by
the word, - Titus 35 Not by works of righteousness which we
have done, but according to His mercy He saved
us, through the washing lt3067gt of regeneration
and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
7The Apostle Pauls Sins Were Washed Away in
Baptism!
- And now why are you waiting? Arise and be
baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the
name of the Lord. (Acts 2216)
8Jesus Ordained That to Enter the Kingdom, One
Must Be Born of Water and the Spirit!
Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly,
I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot
see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said to Him,
How can a man be born when he is old? Can he
enter a second time into his mother's womb and be
born? Jesus answered, Most assuredly, I say to
you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit,
he cannot enter the kingdom of God. (John
33-5)
9Mr. Martin Forgets Faith
- In the Bible, we are SAVED BY GRACE, and grace
does not involve human effort or merit - grace is
grace and work is work! (Just read Ephesians
28,9 and Romans 116.)
10We Are Saved By Grace Through Faith!
- For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and that not of yourselves it is the gift of
God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
(Ephesians 28,9) - As we are saved according to mercy through
washing of regeneration (Titus 35), - So we are saved by grace (includes mercy) through
faith (includes baptism).
11Ephesians Was Written to Christians in Ephesus
- The Ephesians were saved by grace through faith.
- They
- Heard (Ephesians 113)
- Believed (Ephesians 113)
- Were raised in baptism (Ephesians 24-6 cf. Acts
195 Ephesians 526 Colossians 212) - No matter where Martin goes, he cannot separate
baptism from Gods plan of salvation!
12Romans 116
- And if by grace, then it is no longer of works
otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is
of works, it is no longer grace otherwise work
is no longer work. - Martin has to prove that baptism is a work
and not of grace - I have verified that baptism is a work in grace.
- He assumes what he needs to prove!
13Romans 116
- And if by grace, then it is no longer of works
otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is
of works, it is no longer grace otherwise work
is no longer work. - The Romans were saved by grace when they were
baptized into the gracious death of Christ
(Romans 63,4). - Works in v. 6 does not pertain to works of
faith. - Wherever Martin goes, he cannot separate baptism
from Gods gracious plan of salvation!
14Works of Righteousness
- God-Ordained Works of Righteousness
- Man-Ordained Works of Righteousness
- Then Peter opened his mouth and said In truth
I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in
every nation whoever fears Him and works
righteousness is accepted by Him. (Acts
1034,35, cf. John 629)
- Not by works of righteousness which we have
done, but according to His mercy He saved us,
through the washing of regeneration and renewing
of the Holy Spirit. (Titus 35)
15Martins Unanswerable Questions
Question 13
- The "Church of Christ" teaches that "obeying the
Gospel" includes being baptized in water in order
to be saved. If this is true, then how is it that
the converts of Acts 10 were saved by faith
before and without water baptism? The Bible says
in Acts 532 that only those who obey God may
receive the Holy Ghost - so what did those in
Acts 10 do to obey and receive the Holy Ghost and
be saved? In the light of Acts 1034-48, Acts
1114-18, and Acts 157-11, how can anyone
honestly believe that water baptism is necessary
to salvation? Simon Peter said their hearts were
"purified by faith" (Acts 159) and that we are
saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ like
they were (Acts 1511). . .
16Martins Unanswerable Questions
Question 13
- . . .that is, before and without water baptism!
We know that unsaved people do not receive or
have the Holy Spirit (John 1417 Romans 89). We
know that the Holy Spirit is given only to those
who have believed on Christ (John 739). We know
that the Holy Spirit seals the believing sinner
the moment he puts his faith and trust in Christ
as Savior, before he is ever baptized in water
(Ephesians 112,13). How does the warped theology
of Campbellism explain away these clear passages
of Scripture without "muddying the waters" of
truth and drowning its members in eternal
damnation?
17RECEIVE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM?
- Why did the household of Cornelius
18Holy Spirit Baptism
- Was given to the apostles in Acts 21-4.
- Not to save them
- They were already clean (John 153).
- They were already branches (John 155).
- To fulfill Old Testament prophecy (Acts 216).
- So they would be able to prophesy/speak in
tongues (Acts 24,18). - To open the door for all of Israel
- granting them the privilege of calling on the
name of the Lord and coming into Christs
church/body when they obeyed the gospel (Acts
221,38,47).
19THAT HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM SAVED ANYONE FROM SIN?
20Holy Spirit Baptism
- Given to the Household of Cornelius in Acts 10.
- Not for the purpose of saving them.
- They had heard only the beginning of the message
(Acts 1115 cf. Romans 1017). - To enable them to tongue-speak (Acts 1046).
- To open the door to salvation for all Gentiles.
- Granting them the privilege of calling on the
name of the Lord and, upon obeying the gospel,
coming into the church/body of Christ (Acts
1118 1047,48)
21THE HOUSEHOLD OF CORNELIUS SAVED?
22ANSWER SAME MANNER
- But we believe that through the grace of the
Lord Jesus Christ, we shall be saved in the same
manner as they. (Acts 1511)
23Jews and Gentiles
- Jews saved after
- Hearing words (Acts 214, 22, 40)
- Believing (Acts 244)
- Confession implied (Romans 1010)
- Repenting (Acts 238)
- Being baptized in the name of the Lord (Acts
238,41)
- Gentiles saved after
- Hearing words (Acts 105,61113,14)
- Believing (Acts 1043)
- confession implied (Romans 1010)
- Repenting (Acts 1118)
- Being baptized in the name of the Lord (Acts
1048)
24We know that unsaved people do not receive or
have the Holy Spirit (John 1417 Romans 89).
ACTUALLY
- The unsaved received the Holy Spirit to
PROPHESY - Saul (1 Samuel 1918-24)
- Balaam (Numbers 241,2233Joshua 1322)
- Donkey (Numbers 2228)
- Caiaphas (John 1149-52)
25Cannot produce one New- Testament example that
shows a person being saved apart from baptism
(After Christs
ascension!)
Yet, in their preaching and teaching, they
willingly leave out the BAPTISM piece of the
salvation puzzle!
26Who formerly were disobedient, when once the
Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah,
while the ark was being prepared, in which a few,
that is, eight souls, were saved through water.
There is also an antitype which now saves
us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the
flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward
God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 320, 21
