8Nietzsches Philosophy
9Apollo vs. Dionysus
- Art as a form of monument
- Reverence of the past
- Rationality and logic
- Order
- Art as an experience
- Focus on the present
- Emotion
- Chaos and freedom
10Master vs. SlaveMorality
- Focus on the individual
- Strength
- Willpower
- Concern for others only where it is self-serving
- Morality of the strong
- Focus on the group
- Generosity
- Pity
- Concern for others is of prime importance
- Morality of those unable to defend themselves
against the strong
11God is a thought who makes crooked all that is
straight.
Religion and Faith
Faith not wanting to know what is true.
Is man one of God's blunders? Or is God one of
man's blunders?
Do you want to strive for peace of mind and
happiness? Then believe. Do you want to be a
devotee of truth? Then seek.
A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows
that faith does not prove anything.
There is not enough love and goodness in the
world to permit giving any of it away to
imaginary beings.
12Nietzsches Problems with Christianity
- Dismissal of life as No Good
- Idea of Original Sin
- Idealization of Slave Morality
- Emphasizes and encourages weakness
- Christian God is no longer believable
13Only the weak require slave morality such as
Christianity offers!
Master morality is for the strong!
Man should aspire to be the Übermensch!
The sick are best qualified to judge the healthy!
14Ad Hominem Attacks
Socrates was wrong, plus he was ugly!
Hegel was wrong, plus he was an idiot!
Schopenhauer was wrong, plus he was a coward!
A philosopher should be the embodiment of his
philosophy!
Wagners music is bad, plus hes a jerk!
15Justifying Contradictions
It is hard enough to remember my opinions,
without also remembering my reasons for them!
There are no facts, only interpretations.
The irrationality of a thing is no argument
against its existence, rather a condition of it.
There are no eternal facts, as there are no
absolute truths.

17Understanding Nietzsche
Nietzsche wanted us

but to react.
