Straw Leak Test Status

• Running now with 2-straw partially automated
  system
• Can reliably get 125 straws/day (target)
• New 4-straw system is under construction (in use
  April 2001)
• Automation of additional steps is being developed
• Basic leak test technology is unchanged.

Straw Leak Test Criterion

• Straw is re-tested if leak rate exceeds 0.020
  water in 20 s (0.7 mbar/bar/min cf. TDR
  specification of 0.1 mbar/bar/min)
• Straw that fails three times is rejected.
• Typical re-test results are 0.004, 0.001, 0.010,
  0.002.
• Leak rate is usually a function of our machine.
  We do not plan to change.

Conclusions

• Leak check criterion is satisfactory upgrade of
  equipment will proceed on the basis that existing
  basic method works
• Production rate now adequate expected to
  increase, releasing technician time for other
  work.
