19
WAYS TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR KOSSA (see pages
36-37 of notebook)
  • Have Reviews
  • Room set up as stations with each station
    reviewing a document
  • Use written tests given throughout the year to
    review for multiple choice
  • Use KOSSA Rubric to score classroom
papers--students should know what is on rubrics
and be accustomed to being graded in that way.

20
WAYS TO PREPARE STUDENTS CONT.
  • Motivate Your Students
  • Explain what they can earn by doing well on the
    assessment.
  • Good employment credential
  • College credit at several universities
  • Explain the Perkins funding and point out
equipment, software, etc., that has been bought
    for your department.

21
WAYS TO PREPARE STUDENTS CONT.
  • When all else fails . . .
  • Bribe them.
  • Class party (before and/or after).
  • Bonus points.
  • Final exam grade.

22
  • IF YOU ARE EXCITED, THEN YOUR STUDENTS WILL TRY
HARDER. If you act like this is an
inconvenience, then your students will feel that
way and will not perform well.

23
TESTING TIPS
  • You (as the teacher) should give the assessment
    to your students.
  • Use Perkins money to get a substitute for ½ day.
  • Make sure your students know the correct
terminology for each program (fields, records,
    reports, query, etc.).
  • Work with students on proofreading (one of the
    most missed questions).

24
TESTING TIPS CONT.
  • ONLY test those students who are currently taking
    Advanced Computer Technology Applications
  • Volunteer to grade the assessments in March

25
What it all boils down to
  • KOSSA isnt going away.
  • You are doing your students an injustice if you
dont work to make them successful at this
    assessment.
  • You are doing yourself and your school an
injustice if you dont help to make your students
    successful (tied to Perkins funds).
