2CYCLONES AND FLOODS HIT BALOCHISTAN AND SINDH
On 23 and 24 June, coastal areas were hit by a
strong tropical cyclone Yemyin. Dumped
torrential rains over Balochistan and
Sindh. Monsooon rains worsened the situation

6FORECAST SUMMER RAINFALL IN PAKISTAN JULY TO
SEPTEMBER- 2007
- Strong Monsoon weather system persists although
it lies mainly over Southern Rajasthan/Indian
Gujarat. - Balochistan scattered rainfall with possibility
of isolated heavy fall. - Sindh widespread rains / dust storms. Sea
conditions will be rough. Fishermen advised not
to venture into open sea on August 9. Normal
activities may resume on August 10.

resources and kick starting the relief effort -

assistance. It is welcome.

in South Asia. - Concerned by the economic devastation faced by
survivors - Extended condolences to families
- Commended prompt and effective response by
Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Nepal.

- Well thought out, well constructed flash appeal
launched on July 18, 2007 by Under-Secretary
General Holmes - "Of the 38 million dollars, the biggest single
slice is for early recovery, trying to restore
people's livelihoods. Some 9 million dollars for
those early recovery activities.-USC Holmes - Active clusters shelter, health, water and
sanitation, protection, food security, nutrition,
information management.

- The situation has been stabilized. Threat is
still there. - Situation in Jhal Magsi still cause of concern.
Adequate rations available. Road links being
restored. - No epidemic
- Early recovery has priority
- Help needed in restoring livelihoods, fixing
basic infrastructure wells, schools. - World Bank and ADB will give their damage
assessment report in August. - Cooperation with UN, International Organizations
and NGOs being streamlined - Unearmarked assistance in small amounts creating
problems for the UN

- Go through the NDMA the focal point.
- Reduce clusters because of cash crunch.
- Help us in early recovery.
