Title: Proposed Charter of NETLMM WG

1
Proposed Charter of NETLMM WG
  • Phil Roberts
  • Motorola Labs
  • phil.roberts_at_motorola.com

2
Main Activities
  • Develop a protocol
  • configures a group of access routers and mobility
    anchors into an LMM domain
  • handles mobile node entry and exit from the
    domain
  • handles mobile node movement within the domain
  • Support it with relevant documentation
  • agreed upon problem statement
  • agreed upon requirements and gap analysis
  • a framework document to define problem space and
limit scope of possible solution contexts
  • the protocol itself
  • Demonstrate it through simulation and
    implementation

3
Charter (and other) Issues on ML
  • v6 only start here, but could be used for both,
    must carry v4 traffic
  • zero or minimal host configuration perhaps the
way to describe this is unmodified for the
    operation of LMM
  • host routes vs. mobility anchor ( tunneling)
host routes on intervening routers is an
interesting research topic, for now we focus on
    tunneling
  • inter-AR interface for handover optimization do
this after the basic protocol is done
  • control/bearer separation not specifically out
of scope, but deferred at least until basic
    signalling is understood
  • design team will be formed after WG is formed

4
Proposed Schedule
  • Nov. 2005 - IETF 64, Charter Working Group, form
    protocol Design Team
  • Feb. 2006 - Working Group Last Call on Problem
    Statement and Requirements drafts
  • March 2006 - IETF 65, Interim Design Team Report,
    discuss Last Call comments on
  • Problem Statement and Requirements
    drafts
  • April 2006 - Submit Problem Statement and
Requirements drafts to IESG for publication
  • as Informational RFCs
  • June 2006 - Working Group Last Call on Framework
draft, Working Group Last Call on
  • Protocol draft
  • Aug. 2006 - IETF 66, Discuss Last Call comments
    on Framework and Protocol drafts
  • Nov. 2006 - IETF 67, Submit Framework draft to
    IESG for publication as Informational
  • and Protocol draft for publication as
    Proposed Standard

5
Question 1
  • Who believes they will use this protocol if it is
    done?

6
Question 2
  • Who is willing to work on the protocol
    specification?

7
Question 3
  • Who is willing to implement the protocol?

8
Question 4
  • Who believes this working group should be formed
    roughly according to the charter
