4Why do we have rules?
- Rules are designed to protect us and keep us
safe. - If we ignored rules, there would be lots of
accidents and injuries. - Sometimes there are consequences for breaking
rules. For example, if you hurt someone at school
on purpose you would be told off.

- keep you safe.

11Road rules
- There are millions of
- cars on the road, not including
- other road users such as cyclists
- and pedestrians.
- With so many people using
- the road, it is important that
- rules are in place to help
- everyone stay safe.
12The Highway Code
- The Highway Code includes rules for all road
users such as pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. - Many rules are legal requirements and it is
illegal not to follow them. - Other rules are a guide to safe road use.
13The Highway Code
- For pedestrians, The Highway Code teaches you how
to walk safely alongside the road, how to stay
safe and visible in the dark and how to cross the
road safely using the Green Cross Code.
14The Highway Code
- The Highway Code also teaches road users about
the different road signs and markings as well as
giving drivers safety information about safe
travelling speeds. - Can you think of any road signs you have seen?
