1The Father Fleming Foundation
2The Father Fleming Foundation is a non-profit
organization dedicated to continue the projects
of Father Anthony Fleming
3After Father Flemings Death in July of 1997 we
paid our first visit to the Rahunia leper colony
4Leprosy
- A bacteria that attacks and destroys nerves
- Afflicted people lose their homes, villages,
jobs and position in society - Robbing people of life, dignity, and hope
5During that visit to the Rahunia colony
- The first request was Water
- 1.Drinking
- 2. washing
- 3. irrigation of their garden
6By the summer of 1998 the foundation had raised
enough funds to dig a well
7Irrigating the gardens help provide
self-sufficiency
8Clean drinking and bathing water reduced visits
to the hospital by 80.
9- In addition the foundation provided food and
medicines to the colonies and the crippled
children's hospital - Still, the colony needed a light (Hope)
- After a visit with a polish priest, father
Marianus, and his leper colony in Puri India. - Father John Maliekal and the foundation came up
with the idea of a cooperative.

11Second Co-op venture
12Light shines when lepers see hope
- Lepers dig their own fish ponds to provide much
needed protein
13Replacing hovels
- Father John Maliekal embarked on a courageous
adventure to build quality homes for the lepers,
each consisting of a living area and a kitchen.
The homes would be grouped in units of ten.
