3Sector contributions to mercury emissions in
Europe in 2000 Total emission in Europe estimated
to 239 tonnes
4Accuracy of estimates
- The following accuracy of emission estimates can
be assigned - l stationary fossil fuel combustion 25 ,
- l non-ferrous metal production 30 ,
- l iron and steel production 30 ,
- l cement production 30 , and
- l waste disposal a factor of up to 5
5Spatial distribution of mercury anthropogenic
emissions in Europe in 2000
6Spatial distribution of natural mercury emission
in Europe
Spatial distribution of mercury reemission from
soil in Europe

8SCENARIOS DEFINITIONS Business As Usual (BAU) -
economic progress at a rate dependent on the
future development of industrial technologies and
emission control technologies without pressure of
new environmental law, Policy Target (POT) - all
currently agreed international conventions and
European Union directives concerning the
reduction of mercury emissions to the air and
water will be fully implemented, Deep Green
(DEG) - implementation of all solutions leading
to a maximum degree reduction of mercury
emissions and loads discharged to the environment.
