GULF COAST AREA
Padre Island national Seashore encompasses
133,000 acres of Americas vanishing barrier
islands. Galveston Island takes up 32 miles of
Gulf beaches. To insure the safety of visitors
and encourage more families to frequent Galveston
Island beaches, the City of Galveston and the
Galveston Park Board of Trustees have
cooperatively banned alcohol consumption from
most public beaches and the Seawall, with the
exception of licensed concession areas.

BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK
Big Bend is situated on the boundary with
Mexico along the Rio Grande, a place where
countries and cultures meet. The park covers
over 801,000 acres of west Texas in the place
where the Rio Grande makes a sharp turnthe Big
Bend. Native peoples lived in or passed
through this area for thousands of years. Today,
you can drive your car along the same route that
Comanche warriors once traveled (the Great
Comanche War Trail).
