2Mobilization Deferment
- NAVADMIN 007/07
- For Active Component Sailors that transition to
Reserve Component to permit a reasonable
transition period and avoid Back-to- Back
deployments or mobilizations. - NAVET or OSVET who affiliates with the Navy
Reserve - within 6 months of release from Active Duty 2
year involuntary mobilization deferment - within 7 -12 months of release from Active Duty
1 year involuntary mobilization deferment -
- Member may volunteer for mobilization at any
time during the deferment period. - NCS and NAT program are ineligible

Receive 4 days pay for 2 days of drilling

5Retirement and Retired Pay
- Based on attaining a minimum of 20 qualifying
years of reserve service or a combined total of
active and reserve service. (Last 6 years must be
served in a reserve status) - Each year of active duty service counts as 1
qualifying year - Earn 365 points for each year
- Attend a minimum of 40 of 48 drills (1 point per
drill) - Complete 14 days of required Annual Training (AT)
each year (or have an approved waiver) - Satisfactory year a minimum of 50 points
- Maximum points per anniversary year 130
- (NDAA 2008 changed this, previously max 90)
- Will begin to receive retired pay when member
reaches age 60 or attaining 20 qualifying years,
whichever is later. - (NDAA 2008 implemented new guidance whereby a
member may reduce the age 60 requirement by 90
days for each aggregate of 90 days he/she serves
on active duty (mobilization) on or after 29
January 2008)

8MONTGOMERY GI BILL SELECTED RESERVE (MGIB-SR)
- ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Incur a six year Drilling Reserve obligation
(For NAVET or OSVET) - National Call to Service (NCS) are ineligible
unless they agree to drill for 6 years (They have
a mandatory 2 year obligation when leaving Active
Duty) - Complete any Initial Active Duty for Training
(IADT) - - New Accession Training (NAT) (Boot Camp and
A school) - Cost to member 0
- ENTITLEMENT AND USAGE
- 36 Full-time benefits, 317 per month as of
October 1, 2007 - 14 Years to use benefits, must remain in the
drilling reserve - Will maintain entitlement if mobilized.
- Maintain satisfactory drill participation
- MULTIPLE ENTITLEMENT
- May be eligible for Active Duty MGIB and MGIB-SR
- Both offer 36 months of benefits, however,
federal law limits max to 48 total months

KICKER
- ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Must be entitled to MGIB-SR Basic benefits
(Includes 6 year obligation) - Be serving in a critical specialty as listed in
the current bonus NAVADMIN message - (041/08)
- Cost to member 0
- ENTITLEMENT AND USAGE
- 36 months of Full-Time benefits, 200 per month
(in addition to basic benefit) - If member is also eligible for Active Duty MGIB
can elect to use with this program
10RESERVE EDUCATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (REAP)
(CHAPTER 1607)
- BASIC INFORMATION
- EFFECTIVE DATE

- ALL active duty mobilization periods since this
date qualify - ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- For Drilling Reserve or Individual Ready Reserve
(IRR) members - Must be ordered to ACDU (Mobilized) for more
than 90 consecutive days - Ensure contingency data is updated in DEERS
- Must reaffiliate immediately upon completion of
orders - Member eligible for one (1) 90 day deferment but
must remain in the IRR - Disabled Members If a member is released from
ACDU (Mobilization) prior to completion of 90
consecutive days because of an injury, illness or
disease incurred or aggravated in the line of
duty they shall be entitled to benefits

(REAP)Buy-Up Program
- Prior to January 28, 2008 (NDAA 2008)
- Not authorized
- After January 28, 2008 (NDAA 2008)
- Eligible REAP participants may now participate in
the buy-up program. (Previously only available
for eligible Chapter 30 Active Duty MGIB
participants) - May pay up to 600 to increase their monthly REAP
benefit payment amount by as much as 150 per
month. - Must be a member of a Ready Reserve component
(Selected Reserve or IRR) to pay into the
buy-up program.
