    developed through a partnership between the DPUC,
    the utilities and ISE in an effort to connect all
    energy resources available to residents of
    Connecticut.
  • Site includes links to over 100 websites
    including CEEF efficiency programs, CCEF
    Renewable Program, finance programs, electricity
    reliability, shopping for energy, energy
    assistance support, energy related events and
    more
  • The site is averaging more than 8000 unique
    visitors each month with over 9000 visitors in
    August 2009.
  • ISE is now responding to 1-877-WISE USE calls on
    energy related issues other than inquires
    concerning utility conservation programs.

Curriculum Development and Implementation
  • Conducted 8 student workshops for 1070 students
    and 44 teachers.
  • Created 2 new lesson plans for the website on
    Green Jobs Nuclear Energy.
  • Integrated the administration of Keep
    Connecticut COOL! and held the 2009 contest at
    Eastern engaging 18 school teams and over 100
    students.
  • Averaged over 700 unique web visitors to
    CTEnergyEducation each month.
  • Conducted 2 teacher workshops for 46 educators.
  • Employed the 12 Steps to a Sustainable K-12
    School model as a sustainability education lesson
    and judging criterion for the Keep Connecticut
    COOL! contest.
  • Partnering with Northeast Energy Partners (NEEP)
    code specialist to hold four hands-on ResCheck
    /ComCheck trainings sessions in Fall 2009.
  • Assisted the Dept of Public Safety, State
    Building Inspector and the Code Revision
    Committee with 2009 Green Building Code Revision.

Integrate Energy Efficiency Into CT Technical
High School System
  • The Superintendent of Connecticuts Technical
    High School system approved revisions to
    construction trades curriculum and ISE held
    multiple workshops for Curriculum Specialists to
    integrate Energy Efficiency and HP Building
    Standards into the Construction Trades programs.
  • Energy efficiency topics have been added to the
    11th grade programs for Fall 2009 in
    Architectural Drafting, Carpentry, Electrical,
    Plumbing and Heating and HVAC.
  • Program review and development for integrating HP
    building design and energy efficiency into grades
    9, 10, and 12 will continue into 2010.
  • The plan is to design and build a Zero-Carbon
    building as a Senior Capstone Project in 2010-11.
  • All four CSU Presidents have signed the
    Presidents Climate Challenge (ACUPCC) and are
    developing Actions Plans to get to Zero-Carbon by
    2050.
  • Manchester CC and Norwalk CC have signed ACUPCC.
    ISE is working with Green Campus Teams from both
    Three Rivers CC and Middlesex CC.
  • ISE presented the CT Green Campus Initiative at
    09 AASHE and 09 ACORE national conferences.

Green Campuses Initiative

K-12 School Energy Management Course
  • Completed a pilot program with four 6-day
    sessions by June 2009
  • Group 1 - Bridgeport, Trumbull Stamford.
  • Group 2 - Cromwell, Wethersfield, Rocky Hill
    Region 13.
  • Group 3 - 35 managers from CT School Building and
    Grounds Association.
  • Group 4 - New Haven and Guilford Public Schools.
  • Benchmarked all participating schools with EPA
    Energy Star Portfolio Manager prior to start of
    each program.
  • Classes included technical material and field
    site visits on CT Energy Issues, Building Energy
    Use, Energy Auditing, Cost Benefit Analysis,
    Energy Codes, Lighting, Heat Loss, Building
    Envelope, HVAC, IAQ, OM Opportunities, Demand
    Response, Distributed Generation, Renewable
    Options, High Performance Standards, and
    Greening Your School.
  • Post-pilot program evaluation is underway to be
    completed in Fall 2009.
  • Starting Group 5, which will include the facility
    managers from 17 CT Technical High School and
    four trade instructors. The objective is to
    create a certification program for high school
    students in Building Operations.

Green Collar Jobs Initiatives
  • ISE is supporting Green Collar Job initiatives
    recommended in the American Recovery and
    Reinvestment Act
  • Testified in February 09 on Green Collar Jobs to
    the CT Legislature,
  • Department of Labor, and Department of Social
    Services.
  • Serving on the Green Jobs Council/State Energy
    Sector Partnership.
  • Serving on CT Energy Workforce Development
    Consortium.
  • Working with the CT Tech High School and CT
    Community Colleges to offer Green Collar Job
    certification programs through continuing
    education.
  • ISE participated in two ARRA/DOL grant
    applications to train Green Building Operators
    through Pathways from Poverty and Certified
    Energy Managers through the CT Green Jobs
    Council.
  • ISE participated with the Workplace, Inc.,
    Fairfields Workforce Development Board, and the
    Emily Tremaine Foundation by conducting five
    workshops with regional policy leaders,
    businesses and educators to increasing their
    understanding of the need to develop green
    businesses and create job in energy efficiency
    and renewable energy.

Other 2009 ISE Initiatives
  • Under contract with CCEF, ISE maintain an ACCESS
    database of Connecticut school districts tracking
    their plans to construction or renovation
    schools. ISE made 18 presentation to school
    officials and building committees on building
    high performance schools. ISE is actively
    supporting the design of 12 new school
    construction projects.
  • In 2009, ISE completed Portfolio Manager
    Benchmarking for 3 towns and 8 school systems and
    continues to work with EPA promoting the 10
    Climate Challenge. In addition, ISE is working
    with CLP, UI, CCEF and EPA to support a new
    Municipal Outreach Initiative which coordinates a
    portfolio of technical and incentive programs to
    create more sustainable communities.
  • ISE maintains the www.ctbiofuelinfo.org website
    in support of the Connecticut Legislatures
    Biofuel/Biodiesel Initiative.
  • ISE served as host for Easterns first Utility
    Day for the community of Willimantic for the
    Statewide Legal Services Organization and CLP
    with arrangements contracted with 140 families.
  • ISE serves as committee chair for Energy and
    Green Building Standards for the Bridgeports
    Sustainability Model Program, B-Green2020 and a
    member of their Green Jobs committee.
