I. Location and Government.
  • The Caddo live in piney woods of East Texas.
  • They settled at the rivers and tributaries.
    Youll see the Caddo along the Red , Angelina ,
    Neches.
  • They also had a very complicated government.
  • There was a chief called the Caddi.
  • Xinesi was the top chief. These men were top
    religious officials.
  • They passed there position to theyre sons.

II. Dress
  • Caddo men wore breechclothes made out of deer
    skin.
  • They plucked out all of their facial hair.
  • The women wore deerskin skirt and buffalo robes.
  • They also tattooed their bodies
  • Others desinged of birds animals.

III.Homes
  • The homes or lodges looked like lot like
    beehives.
  • They were framed with logs or tree branches.
  • Cane was used as roofing material.
  • Beds were made out of matting.
  • Fires burned in the center of the lodge!
  • Beds took up the most of the lodge!

IV. How they lived
  • The family was the most important to the tribe
    unit.
  • When the men married they moved in with their
    wives.
  • The children belong to the mothers clans.
  • Women could divorce their husband by throwing the
    men stuff out of the lodge.
  • They were very good traders.

V.Beliefs
  • The Caddo believed in one true Great spirit.
  • They also believe in the Devil.
  • There was a corn goddess, Mother Earth, and the
    scared fire god.
  • The Caddo were mound builders.
  • The Xinesi was the top the religious officials.

  • The Caddo were great farmers of Piney Woods of
    East Texas.
  • They created pottery ,baskets ,mats , and other
    goods they could trade. They lived in villages.
  • Government was controlled by chief who were also
    religious.
  • Caddo believed in a creator.
