Rebanding Process

• Negotiate with Sprint/Nextel
• Motorola (with Its Subcontractor Televate) is the
  only Company that Can Perform Rebanding of Its
  Radio System
• Current Status Negotiations Moving Very Slowly

  P25 technology for feasibility in addressing
  interoperability
• Funding Delayed competition provides a better
  opportunity to secure funding in a more
  economically favorable climate

  with other agencies in the area.

• The County and surrounding agencies currently
  have a significant investment in existing
  Motorola equipment as follows
• 1500 mobile and portable assets, value 6.6M
• Motorola Gold Elite Consoles, value 5.4M
• Utilities SCADA System, value 2.2M
• Local area municipalities and agencies with
  Motorola mobile and portable equipment, value
  8M
• Total investment in Motorola equipment 22M
• The County has been replacing radios on an
  on-going basis to date

Plan of Action

• Due to current economic conditions, staff
  recommends proceeding as follows
• Current 15M, 5-year CIP
• Maintain current-year 3M
• Cancel current CIP beyond the current year
• Reinstate the CIP in 2011-2012 FY
• Meanwhile, continue the current practice of
  buying replacement radios for Sheriff and Public
  Safety from the Traffic Surcharge and
  current-year CIP
• Issue new RFP in 2011
• Federal Stimulus Package plan?
