  3. Writing the objectives.

  • Why conduct an exercise?

Analysing the Need
  • Needs Analysis An investigation to determine the
    requirements of plans and training of personnel
    that an exercise will address
  • Purpose of Needs Analysis
  • To assist the exercise management team in the
    decision making process about whether an exercise
    should be conducted and if so, what type of
    exercise is required

Analysing the Need
  • Identify and write down why your agency would
    need to conduct an exercise.
  • Include anticipated benefits that will be
    obtained from the conduct of an exercise.

Exercise Aim
  • Definition a general and broad statement of
    intent which sets an overall direction for the
    exercise
  • The aim should be begin with a verb and be
    positive, clear, concise, achievable measurable

Writing an Aim
  • Make the Exercise Aim achievable and make sure
    that it is written clearly so that everyone can
    understand it.
  • The Aim explains what the is intended to be
    achieved through the conduct of the exercise.
  • The Aim statement should be positive (avoid using
    the word NOT), and should require an activity.

  • Write an aim that corresponds to the needs that
    have been identified.
  • List some of the factors (limitations and
    considerations) that may affect your aim

  • State the objectives that you would like to be

  • For each objective, identify performance measures
    that could be used to identify whether the
    objectives are achieved during the exercise.
