eastern Mediterranean. It is formed by four main

Mallorca is the largest island with an area of
3,667 km². Large sandy beaches, cliffs and
secluded coves exist along the 565 km of its
coast. This coast, rugged, clipped and of great
beauty, opens out to the sea in three major
areas the bays of Pollensa and Alcúdia in the
North and the Bay of Palma in the South

33 S'Albufera Nature Reserve lies in the north of
Majorca, in l'Alcúdia bay. It is a marshy
coastline formed by lakes and natural and
artificial canals

36The presence of vertebrates in the area deserves
a mention. These include, martens, weasels,
tortoises and the calopet, amongst others.
37However, birds dominate this open space, namely
the marsh harrier, little bittern, black-winged

38NATIONAL PARK OF CABRERA
39National Park Cabrera is the only marine parkland
of Spain. It is located south of Mallorca and is
composed of 19 smaller islands and islets,
covering an area of 1318 hectares, in addition to
the surrounding marine zone of 8,703 hectares sea.

important seabird colonies, endemic species and
one of the best preserved seabeds of the
Mediterranean
