• The name should be memorable and
• Easy to pronounce and spell
• Be original, not too similar to existing business
  names, company names or Trademarks
• Be appropriate, professional and not offensive
• Emphasises what the business actually does
• Create a short list you may not be able to
  register your first choice

Registering your business name

• Business names for sole traders, partnerships,
  trusts and cooperatives are registered with
  Consumer Affairs Victoria
• Company names are registered with the Australian
  Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
• Register the business name online
• at the CAV website (consumer.vic.gov.au).

Your Domain Name

• Just because you have registered a business or
  company name or trade mark, does not mean you can
  automatically use it as a domain name.
• You may not be able to stop someone using a
  domain name that is the same as your business
  name, company name or trade mark.
• Investigate registering a domain name
• at the Australian Domain Name Administrator
  website (auda.org.au).
