Biography
  • Oldenburg- born in 1929 in Stockholm, Sweden
  • Moved to NY, then Chicago
  • Studied at Yale University and Art Institute of
    Chicago
  • Van Bruggen- born in 1942 in Groningen, The
    Netherlands
  • Masters degree in art history
  • Worked at a museum, Amsterdam
  • Wrote books on Oldeburgs early work
  • Married in 1977, and did over 40 large-scale
    sculptures worldwide.
  • Based on everyday objects from popular culture
  • Focus art on ordinary objects
  • Pop sculptors

Oldenburg Moved to America- 1936
1987 and 1990, van Bruggen and Oldenburg also
undertook a series of indoor projects for
European venues
Oldenburg was honored with a solo exhibition of
his work at the Museum of Modern Art in NY in 1969
Their first collaboration was in 1976
Married in 1977
in 1978 van Bruggen moved to New York, where she
continued to work with Oldenburg
The Knife Ship traveled to museums throughout
America and Europe from 1986 to 1988.
Van bruggen 1998 donated a piece of her artwork
for auction to benefit Amnesty International.
