New Electronic Health Card in GermanyEntry into
Modernization of the Health Care System
  • The trail for the introduction of the electronic
    health card on 1 January 2006 has been set.
  • In Germany the European health insurance card
    will be introduced in an eye-readable format on
    the reverse side of the German electronic health
    card (eGesundheitskarte)
  • The self-governing bodies of the health care
    system are charged with the introduction of the
    card and of telematic infrastructure according to
    291 a of Social Code Book V.
