Internal Recruitment - Advantages
  • Give employees increased commitment knowing they
    will be offered promotion
  • Motivation to work hard for career development
  • Less training/ induction required as staff
    already know company policies
  • Potential candidates are already well known
  • Quicker and cheaper than advertising externally

Internal Recruitment - Disadvantages
  • Limited amount of potential applicants external
people may be far better qualified
  • Bad relationships may already be present
  • Managing people you were previously the same
    scale as could be difficult
  • If one person gets the job over another, ill
    feeling and resentment may exist

External Recruitment
  • What is meant by external recruitment?
  • Job positions are advertised outside the company,
giving anyone the opportunity to apply
  • Take 5 minutes to brainstorm as many different
    methods of external recruitment

External Recruitment
  • Vacancy boards outside premises (not managerial
    positions)
  • Local paper
  • The internet
  • Agencies (fees can be expensive)
  • National press (not just papers)
  • Careers service
  • Head Hunting (good staff, but is it unethical?)

10
Task
  • Look on the internet for five different jobs
    based in retail
  • Word process a table, list the job advertised,
and then make a case for whether you would
advertise that job internally or externally
  • State how you would then advertise the job and
    why
  • You have 20 minutes be prepared to feedback
