What is GeoNetwork

• A web based catalogue application that integrates
• Metadata search
• Metadata administration
• Data distribution and publication
• Interactive access to maps from distributed
  servers through InterMap
• It uses standard technologies and data formats
• An open source project

History

• 2000-2001 - GeoNetwork prototype started by FAO
• 2002 - Start of collaboration on Spatial Data
  Management between FAO WFP
• 2002 - Development of GeoNetwork InterMap Web
  Map Viewer version 1
• 2004 - Start GeoNetwork version 2 with UNEP
• 2005 - First joined workshop in Rome
• 2005 - uptake of GeoNetwork as catalog core in
  several programs outside of the UN
